Wenting Sun
Freelance Choreographer and Dance Photographer who lives and works between London and Shanghai. Her choreography draws different types of humor that either breaks up or builds up the tensions in dance. She is attentive to how movement communicates ideas in different cultures, issues and our relationship to technology.
She is currently working with Immersive as in-house Choreographer and Movement Director. Her work there also encompasses stage design and creative concept development at a senior level.
She enrolled the New York University Shanghai as the Assistant Arts Professor in the Dance Department from 2020-2021. She holds an MFA in dance from the University of Utah. Prior to this appointment she was also on the faculty of the music school of Shanghai Theater Academy and Shouze Arts Center, specializing in all levels contemporary techniques, improvisation and creative process. Her MFA in dance was received from the University of Utah. Meanwhile she studied film and screen-dance during University, subsequently refining her visions in narrative and framing in choreography.
As a performer, Wenting has worked with Slate Dance, Molly Heller, Satu Hummasti, and Netta Yerushalmy. She has performed, choreographed and taught throughout the United States, China, Europe and Japan. Her recent work “1:1 Transforming Road” was performed by Tenmangu Gallery in Osaka, Japan. Her commercial work has seen her working in London with Immersive International creating choreography with motion captured dance for private art commissions.
